Question: Why Do Some Limewire Downloads Need More Sources?
Attempting to download files using a Limewire P2P client sometimes fails. A "Need More Sources" error message often appears in this case.
Answer: The "Need More Sources" client error message encountered during a Limewire download can occur for any of several reasons:
- The Limewire client you are connecting to has been taken offline. Limewire clients may disconnect from the Gnutella network yet still be listed in search results for a brief time. You will need to refresh search results and try other clients.
- The copy of the file found on the remote Limewire client has been recently moved by the other party. Again, you will need to refresh search results and try other clients.
- The client providing the Limewire download has reached its connection limit. In Limewire, each client can support only a limited number of simultatenous uploads to other peers, called "upload slots." Your connection to another client will be refused if no upload slots are available. You can retry the connection at a later time.
- You are behind a firewall and the firewall is not set up correctly. Most firewalls can be configured to accept Limewire file downloads. To solve this problem, set up forwarding on TCP and UDP ports used by Gnutella (at a minimum, the default port 6346).
- Both you and the client providing the Limewire download are behind firewalls. A Limewire download connection cannot be established, even with port forwarding, if both Gnutella peers are firewalled. Temporarily disable your firewall to work around this situation if necessary.
- Finally, the download error may occur due to a flaw in the Limewire software. Retry the download, try connecting to other clients, and restart your own Limewire client if necessary.
