Compared to cable modem service, DSL often will not run faster or cost less. In fact, cable may hold a slight edge over DSL in both respects. However, a key feature of DSL is its implementation of dedicated local bandwidth. Customers may share bandwidth at the service provider, but the line from the provider to the customer's location is not shared with other customers in the neighborhood as is done with cable networking.
