Industry analysts at Informa Telecom and Media and Mobidia report that Android smartphone users of LTE mobile broadband service in Korea, Japan and the U.S. are consuming significantly more (sometimes twice as much) network data per device than those using 3G. This is generally expected as the higher data rates of LTE and other 4G services enable people to download and stream faster. More surprisingly, though, the Wi-Fi usage of these 4G devices surveyed increased less, suggesting that users were choosing to work over their cell connection more often in some cases. If this trend continues, cell network overcrowding will remain a major consideration in the forseeable future.
