The last IPv4 address ranges in greater Europe are now being rationed by Internet authorities. Although Africa and parts of the Americas still have a few unallocated blocks, the global supply of these addresses will eventually run out. The transition to IPv6 does not technically require these IPv4 addresses to be exhausted. However, everyone has been moving to the newer technology at a snail's pace, and it seems that folks won't make the change until they are forced. European Internet providers and any other businesses receiving this last round of IP addresses will be required to justify their need.
