Recently I've been looking at an interesting shareware utility for Mac OS X called GoodNight that can save energy and extend the life of Mac computers in your home. The GoodNight program automatically puts a Mac to sleep when its network traffic drops below certain thresholds, based on a set of preferences you manage through its user interface. It can monitor any of a Mac's Ethernet, wireless (Airport), FireWire and other interfaces. GoodNight runs on Tiger (10.4) and newer versions of Mac OS X.
