While Wi-Fi networks are getting a speed boost with newer 802.11n equipment replacing older standards, the industry is working to improve Wi-Fi in other ways. 802.11v, for example, is an emerging standard designed to help the environment by reducing how much power a Wi-Fi network uses. Note that 802.11v does not replace 802.11b/g/n; it simply enhances existing Wi-Fi technology with additional power management capabilities.
