640 Gbps - How Fast Can The Internet Get?

A research team led in Australia recently demonstrated their breakthrough optical networking hardware capable of processing network traffic at an incredible 640 Gbps. If this impressive technology can be deployed someday, it would greatly increase the world's Internet bandwidth. Compare it to the 40 Gbps connection of a woman in Sweden, for example, who recently was reported to possess the world fastest Internet connection.
