Guide Review - Netgear WGT624 Wireless Router

The Netgear WGT624 utilizes the same Atheros chipset technology as the D-Link DI-624 enhanced 802.11g router. The WGT624 additionally features Netgear's proprietary "XR" technology for extended wireless signal range.

Version 3 of the WGT624 includes the bundled Trend Micro Home Network Security service. This optional service includes port and spyware security scanning, free for a trial period. Even without this add-on, the WGT624 provides the essential protection technologies of NAT and Stateful Packet Inspection firewalling.

The WGT624 contains four Ethernet ports for connecting wired devices. The built-in omni-directional antenna is removable with some effort.

A waste of money and time, Member ale83

I registered just to warn you about this piece of junk. I have the latest firmware installed. I played with the MTU values, as well as with the network setting on both my computer and on the router. I have also twice waited forever on hold with Netgear for some dummy to suggest unplugging/plugging in the power adaptor as a way to fix the problem. My call was cut out when the guy ran out of ideas, though. The problem is that I lose Internet constantly. So does any other computer at my home that tries to use this router. I don't lose a signal, but my Internet access goes down. I have no problems if my computer is connected straight to the cable modem, so I know it's the router. Curiously, connecting via Ethernet cable directly to the router doesn't help matters any. The Internet access still goes down. This thing even fails as a wired router!! But don't take my word for it. Google ""wgt624 drops connection"" and you will find many others that share my opinion. So, if you want to live on the wild side and risk your money for something widely recognized as sucking, buy this product.
