The first two options pertain to dial-up connections, and the first is selected by default. Although either option can technically be used to configure an Internet dial-up connection, the second option, "Dial-up to the Internet," is specially designed for use with the Internet and contains additional features that the first option, "Dial-up to private network," does not. Choose the second option as shown above and click Next to move to the next step as shown below. Internet Connection Wizard - Welcome (Windows 2000)
The first two options on this page pertain to Microsoft's own Internet service plans, that are not covered in this tutorial. The first option is selected by default. When Internet service has already been set up with a different provider, such as Earthlink, one needs to choose the third option on this page to bypass the steps involving Microsoft Internet accounts. Choose the third option as shown above and click Next to move to the next step as shown below. Internet Connection Wizard - Connection Method (Windows 2000)
The first option (selected by default) supports the one home computer having the direct modem link to the Internet, sometimes called the gateway computer. The second option supports other computers on the home LAN that can reach the Internet through a proxy server. (Proxy server configuration is not covered in this tutorial.) Choose the first option and click Next to move to the next steps pertaining to modem hardware and account information. Next page > Modem and Account Information > Page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
