What Is USB 2.0?:

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus, an industry standard for high-speed serial data communications between computers and peripheral devices. USB 2.0 a popular version of USB developed to improve on the performance and reliability of older versions of the standard called USB 1.0 and USB 1.1 (together often referred to as USB 1.x) USB 2.0 is also known as USB Hi-Speed.

How Fast Is USB 2.0?:

USB 2.0 supports a theoretical maximum data rate of 480 megabits per second (Mbps). USB 2.0 typically performs at ten times or greater the speed of USB 1.x for transferring data between devices.

What Is Required to Make USB 2.0 Connections?:

To connect a USB 2.0 device with another USB compatible device, plug any USB cable into a >USB port on each device. If the other connected device only supports older versions of USB, the connection will run at the slower rate of the other device. Even if both devices are USB 2.0, the connection will run at USB 1.0 or USB 1.1 rates if the cable used to connect them only supports those older versions of the standard.

How Is USB 2.0 Equipment Labeled?:

USB 2.0 products including cables and hubs normally feature a "Certified Hi-Speed USB" logo on their packaging (see image). The product documentation should also reference "USB 2.0." Computer operating systems can also display the name and version strings of USB products through their device control screens.

Do Better Versions of USB Exist?:

The next generation of Universal Serial Bus technology is USB 3.0, also called SuperSpeed USB By design, USB 2.0 devices, cables and hubs are functionally compatible with USB 3.0 equipment.
