SSH

By , About.com Guide

Definition: SSH is a remote login technology useful for making command line connections between two computers. Common applications of SSH include file transfer and network system administration. Several different SSH packages are available for Windows, Linux and other operating systems.

SSH offers improved security over older Unix-oriented utilities such as rlogin or telnet. As a network protocol, SSH also provides secure tunneling facilities that can be used to create a type of Virtual Private Network (VPN).
