Home Automation at CES 2011

CES is the Consumer Electronics Show held every January in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA). It is where electronics manufacturers, including those in the area of home automation, show off their newest products for the upcoming year. In the home automation world, CES is the top event of the year. (Note: The 2011 show is scheduled for 6-9 January.)

Who Attends CES?

CES is not open to the general public; you must be an industry professional in the consumer electronics industry to attend. That said, there will be a lot of publicity during and after the show covering the latest product announcements.

If you’re in the consumer electronics industry and would like to attend, you can find out how to obtain exhibit passes by going to http://www.cesweb.org/.

You'll find the following home automation companies represented at CES this year: Schlage, Somfy Systems, HAI, Z-Wave Alliance, Zigbee Alliance, Simplehomenet, and Jasco Products to name just a few. Make a list of who you want to see, because there will be more exhibitors than you’ll be able to meet in four days.

Home Automation New Product Announcements

Expect to hear announcements of many new and innovative products at the 2011 CES show:

  • Schlage has indicated they plan to introduce several new products
  • Jasco Products Company, GE licensee of consumer electronic accessories, is expected to announce a new Z-Wave enabled lighting remote with door lock and thermostat control capabilities, and additionally
  • the Z-Wave Alliance has stated Z-Wave certified products will have strong representation at the event overall
