torrents effectively, and each has a loyal following of users. You can try any of these applications for free to find your personal favorites. Those experienced in P2P networking sometimes prefer to install multiple of these applications and switch between them as needed to maximize their file sharing experience.
The official and original BitTorrent P2P client runs on all major operating systems, and the user interface has been translated to more than 20 different languages. The original BitTorrent was written in Python and available with open source code up to version 5.x. Starting with BitTorrent 6.0, BitTorrent client relesaes do not contain the original Python client but instead a client from the uTorrent (see below) baseline. The BitTorrent DNA (Delivery Network Accelerator) service is not a separate application but rather a network performance technology embedded in version 6.0 and higher of the client.
Azureus is an open-source file sharing client for the BitTorrent P2P network. Azureus runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS using the Java runtime environment. This client also has user interface translations available for numerous languages. Azureus contains a built-in BitTorrent tracker and supports various plug-ins. Beginning with version 3.0, Azureus is bundled with the Vuze media sharing platform and not available for separate download.
BitComet runs on Windows 98 and newer Windows computers and is written in the C++ programming language. User interface support is available in dozens of languages. Newer versions of BitComet (starting with version 0.85) contain embedded advertising. BitComet also contains an embedded Internet Explorer browser and a built-in Flash video (FLV) player.
uTorrent is a free client application for the BitTorrent P2P network that runs on Windows 95 and newer computers. uTorrent was designed to minimally consume a computer's CPU and memory resources and thus may be the best choice of BitTorrent client on older PCs. Taken over by the founders of BitTorrent, the latest versions of uTorrent are released as BitTorrent 6.0 or higher.
BitTornado mimics the user interface of the original BitTorrent client, enhancing it with additional options to manage network bandwidth usage as well as other features.
BitSpirit is a full-featured P2P client for Bit Torrent and also supports Distributed Hash Table (DHT) P2P networks.
The Shareaza free P2P client for Windows is capable of connecting to multiple popular P2P networks including BitTorrent, eDonkey and Gnutella.
