DSL typically performs anywhere from 5-50 times the speed of a traditional dial-up modem. DSL service includes line splitting technology that allows one phone line to simultaneously work with both voice and data. Finally, although the advantage may be relatively slight, DSL should connect faster than traditional dial-up. (In fact, because of its line sharing capabilities, many DSL services simulate an "always-on" Net connection, completely hiding the initial connection waiting time.)
