Also called "range expanders, "signal boosters", or "Wi-Fi boosters," wireless range extenders are small hardware devices that tack onto an existing local computer network and extend its radio signal reach. Wi-Fi range extenders, by far the most common type, closely resemble wireless home broadband routers but do not support direct connections to modems and the Internet. Range extenders often are the best solution for solving problems with wireless devices picking up only weak signals due to physical obstructions or distance between them and the primary access point.
