Following last year's decision by ICANN to expand the Internet's namespace
, the group is now prepared to enable hundreds of new top-level domain (TLD) names before the end of the year. Some of them won't be in English, and others will just be for corporate branding purpose. With ".com" being used almost everywhere, this change would seem to be adding welcome diversity to the Internet. However, other alternative TLDs which have been created in the past like ".info" haven't been widely adopted, and it's not clear this new generation of names will capture much interest.
