Too Old To Understand Wi-Fi?

By October 23, 2012

Follow me on:

Senior citizens in Greenwich Village (New York, USA) recently had the opportunity to attend a seminar titled "What's Wi-Fi and Do I Really Need a Smartphone?" As mentioned in the press article, some of the seniors (in their 70s and 80s) offered some interesting insights about Wi-Fi, why they or others of their generation don't use or understand it.

Even somewhat younger folks can feel Wi-Fi challenged. A 50-something columnist in South Devon, UK recent wrote about her experience using Wi-Fi on a train. She says: "I'm sorry to sound so childish, but to me this is pure magic."

Between the terminology, the security and privacy concerns, and all the things that can go wrong technically, sometimes it seems like magic that any of it ever works.
