Imagine someday being able to carry your portable electronic devices and have them automatically recharge their batteries anywhere. Qi is the name of a technology standard for charging electronic devices wirelessly that could make this future possible. Qi wireless charging is developed and promoted by the Wireless Power Consortium, a group of companies involved in research and development of batteries, mobile phones, and other high-tech consumer products. Some new Qi products are being showcased this week at CEATEC JAPAN 2011 in Tokyo. Because the Qi standard was ratified only last year, it's not surprising that this technology isn't widely used or too well-known yet. Will it succeed, or flop? Only time will tell.
