What Is OpenFlow?

OpenFlow is a scheme for adding software programmability to network switches and routers. OpenFlow was developed by academic researchers as a method for enabling experimental technologies on Ethernet networks. It has since been adopted by some industry companies.

OpenFlow has been in the news lately as a technology possibly suited to cloud computing, an environment where virtualized resources and dynamic configuration require programmable solutions.
