The standards group behind Bluetooth announced that version 4.0 of the standard is now "adopted." Those of you who noticed the Bluetooth 4.0 spec was finalized in December, 2009 may be wondering what this new announcement is all about. In short, it is simply another step by the industry towards making actual Bluetooth 4.0 products available for purchase, which is still several months away.

Bluetooth 4.0 promises to offer lower power short-range networking than previous versions of the technology. This will increase battery life on gadgets that use it. PC Magazine reports that may happen at the end of this year or in early 2011.
