PCMag points out that Google's public wireless network has completed ts third year of operation this month in the Mountain View, CA area. Compared to municipal Wi-Fi projects in other cities, GoogleWiFi appears to be doing remarkably well. The service supports many thousands of users and an increasing traffic load, and it remains free. Not surprisingly, a significant fraction of the network's growth is being driven by use of wireless handheld devices like iPhones rather than by more Wi-Fi laptops alone.
