What is Dual Band Wireless?

Simultaneous dual band has become one the hottest new features in wireless networking over the last year. While Apple added simultaneous dual band support to AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule just recently, other vendors have been selling routers with this capability since last year, including the Linksys WRT610N (see photo).

When shopping for wireless equipment, remember that only certain models of routers offer dual band support, and only some of these allow simultaneous operation on both bands. You may also see the term "dual band" applied to other types of wireless electronics, even cell phones.
