Find Wireless Interfererence with Wi-Spy

Tuesday April 14, 2009
Wi-Spy 2.4x Wi-Fi Spectrum Analyzer Wi-Spy is a family of Wi-Fi spectrum analyzer products sold by MetaGeek. What's a spectrum analyzer? Its a tool that samples and maps out the wireless signals in an area to identify sources of traffic and interference. IT professionals use Wi-Spy or similar products to position wireless access points and optimally set Wi-Fi channel numbers to help tune their network performance.

Although more expensive than the average piece of network gear, geeks can also use Wi-Spy in their homes. The Wi-Spy 2.4x unit (shown at right), for example, plugs into a USB port on a Windows PC where accompanying software displays detailed results of wireless spectrum scans.
