New Sierra Wireless ExpressCards Improve Cellular Networking

Sierra Wireless AirCard 501 ExpressCard For those of you with laptops featuring ExpressCard slots, the newest wireless modems from Sierra Wireless may make a nice upgrade to your Internet connectivity options. Their recently announced AirCard 501/502 ExpressCard products offer a substantial bandwidth boost over older cellular modems in this form factor, rated at maximum HSPA data rates of 7.2 Mbps down and 5.76 Mbps up. These products are geared toward business professionals. Due to latency issues and bandwidth limits imposed by service providers, even with respectable data rates, cellular networking is still not a cost effective primary option for residential Internet connectivity, except possibly as a replacement for dialup.
