IBM Tries to Revive Interest in BPL
Thursday November 13, 2008
While many factors suggest BPL (Broadband over Power Line) will never become a popular networking technology, the need to provide high-speed Internet to everyone in rural areas remains. This week, IBM announced their backing of a large BPL investment in the eastern U.S.
Odds are that this is the last chance for BPL to become any significant form of Internet access in the U.S. Its popularity in Europe and other parts of the world is also relatively low. Do you even know anyone who uses BPL for their Internet service?
