About WiBro

Sunday August 31, 2008
Someone who traveled to Seoul noticed a networking technology called WiBro and asked me about it recently. WiBro is a form of WiMax broadband Internet service popular in South Korea. Specifically, WiBro supports the mobile WiMax standard (802.16e), meaning that the service can be accessed from roaming devices like moving automobiles rather than fixed building locations. It supports data rates of approximately 1 Mbps. This technology originated several years ago when WiMax was focused on the fixed standard (802.16d), but today, WiBro and mobile WiMax are basically indistinguishable.
