640 Gbps - How Fast Can the Internet Go?

An international research team recently demonstrated optical networking hardware that supports theoretical speeds up to an incredible 640 Gbps. If this breakthrough technology becomes successful and deployed on the Internet someday, it could dramatically increase the Internet's capacity. Compare this demonstration, for example, to the mom in Sweden who owned the world's fastest Internet connection of 40 Gbps recently.
