| Commentary | Starting with the Lufthansa In-Flight Internet System in 2004, ventures by several airlines to offer Wi-Fi aboard long-distance flights have been less than successful. Now, several carriers are thinking 2008 will be a better year. According to TechSpot.com, Virgin America is joining American and perhaps other U.S. based airlines gearing up to launch in-flight Wi-Fi service.
Let's hope the airlines have good solutions to some of the issues involved with this kind of service: blocking access to inappropriate Web sites, banning loud VoIP calls, educating people on the dangers of keying bank or credit card numbers in public places, and so on.
