Google Launches City's Free WiFi Network - August 2006 GoogleWiFi is the name (SSID) of Google's free city-wide wireless network in Mountain View, CA. With an advertised data rate of 1 Mbps, the concept seems promising although initial tests indicate sluggish performance in some cases. The network will likely expand to San Francisco, CA and other nearby areas soon.
Bradley's take: It won't be long before rogue devices impersonating as Google access points begin to appear: Ensure you connect to the real GoogleWiFi network.
