Talk VoIP With Google
Tuesday August 23, 2005
| News | Any product released by Google these days generates heavy discussion on the Internet. It's no different this week with the recent unveiling of Google Talk Beta, a new instant messaging and VoIP client. Although many reviewers seem to be criticizing Google Talk as if it were a baked product, let's remember the "Beta" means "work in progress," folks. True, Google Talk Beta doesn't offer any file sharing support. Yet early returns suggest the voice over Internet Protocol functionality is firewall friendly with quite good sound quality. And it's free.

please elaborate; how does it work and what do you mean by “it’s free”?
Google Talk is free software. You download the software from Google’s Web site and install it on your computer(s). Then, you can use this software to make phone calls from your computer to another computer, at no charge to you or the person you are calling. Google Talk works by processing the call as data sent across the Internet.
