| Commentary | The mainstream high-speed Internet services today require either phone lines or cable TV lines. So why can't broadband networking be wireless? It can, of course, as soon as the industry gets a bit more organized.
Enter 802.16 WiMax, a technology standard that will support high-speed wireless network access over long distances. WiMax will be especially popular outside the USA and in less-populated areas where traditional broadband has failed to reach. And, if WiMax becomes affordable quickly enough, competition for the Cable and DSL installed base could really heat up.
