The Problem With Broadband

| Commentary | Here's the problem with broadband: An Internet backbone using DWDM over fiber can handle 10000 Mbps, and it's easy to build a 100 Mbps home network, but you can't get more than a paltry 1 Mbps over your broadband connection. And this problem — The Last Mile, The Network Edge, whatever you want to call it — isn't going away for a long time.

"Mr. Leighton said it would be best to redesign the Internet." Yeah, sure, no problem.
