Are all the IT jobs gone?

“I just moved to San Antonio, Texas and searched in the main newspaper here for any jobs that had to do with computer networking. Not a single job came up… . I know that the IT job market is bad right now; my friends couldn't find jobs… I am thinking this field just seems to not be a very dependable way to make a living.”
