802.11g - Here we go again

| Commentary | Now that IEEE has approved the 802.11g standard, expect technology vendors to crank up the Wi-Fi hype machine yet another notch. After the fate suffered by 802.11a in the home market, and Bluetooth everywhere, you'd figure some folks would learn. Sure 802.11g is fast, and it's backward compatible with 802.11b. But what about cost, reliability, and ease of use? Above all, think through the applications. Are you sure you want to be squinting at a terminal or PDA at home or on the road when you should be spending that time sightseeing, conversing with friends and family, or simply relaxing?
